(More customer reviews)The technical specs on these are already available all over the place, so I won't repeat them here. Instead, I'll give a pro and con review:
Pro:
1) Size - There are three units and each is small enough not to be a big problem to hide.
2) Set up - There is really not much to do. I was up and running in under 10 minutes. The main part attaches to your receiver speaker terminals and an AC plug. The other ends attach to each speaker and to an AC adapter (each needs its own AC plug - three in all).
3) Audio quality - Both a plus and a minus. When it works, the audio is very clear and does not really sound any different than a wired system would. HOWEVER, see my comment under the con section.
Con:
1) Interference - My baby monitor interfears with this system. I know it says it does some fancy type of frequency jumping, but the Garco monitor creates interference if it is too close to the speaker ends of the system.
2) Audio quality - This is a high end (and very expensive) system. It figures that those purchasing it will have equally high end systems. Remember how much you paid for those high end amps? None of that power is used to power the remote speakers. Instead you have an overtaxed 50 watt (I think) amp on the speaker end. For 90% of surround applications this is probably fine, but real audio nerds will not be happy with the result. Of course, would an audio nerd really ever use a wireless system? The lack of amplifier power is even more apparent if you try to use this to power a second set of main speakers. Using a McIntosh amp and mid-range Boston Acoustics speakers (VS240) the clipping was evident.
3) Wires - It should be obvious that a trully wireless system is really impossible. Each unit has a speaker wire hook-up and a dedicated AC adapter (although they aren't the massive brick type.)
4) Auto power? - Just a note that these are always on. It would be nice if they could sense a signal and turn themselves on and off (standby). I have no idea how much power these draw when off, but I imagine it isn't much.
5) Price - At the price point these are placed, I'm just not sure they really are worth it. For the same amount of money (or less) you could probably have an electrician fish some speaker wires for you.

Universal Wireless Sender/Receiver Review

(More customer reviews)I've been looking for a way to play music throughout my home, garage and patio. I used to listen to my favorite classical FM stations on cable, and it worked well; but when cable went digital it required a cable demodulator/channel-selector box at each device and there was different lag at each box, so the sound wasn't cohesive.
Now, I've installed three of these Universal Wireless Sender/Recevers and I am VERY PLEASED!! ;-)
Let me clarify some details in the Product Description... this device has a remote control, and the remote does have volume buttons, but the remote is RocketFish's generic remote, also use for receivers, and the volume control works for the receivers, this unit has line output only. And I think that the line output is a good thing. It sort of normalizes the output, so there is no power bias towards the high frequency end of the spectrum -- I plugged this into the aux port my 30 year old Sansui receiver and turned the tuner's selector knob from phono to aux and didn't have to adjust anything else. The frequency response was fabulous!
- also, the Product Description says a 6' 3.5mm-to-stereo cable is included, but it is actually 6" long - the 6" 2RCA/stereo adapter plugs onto the end of the 6' cable to go from the wireless sender/receiver to the stereo tuner/amplifier. Works perfectly.
I've got my computer in the den sending music to the stereo in the living room and the home theater system in the family room. Nice!
The included literature says "Up to 9 rooms of audio entertainment," and the remote has a channel selector, so I think that it is possible to have more than one transmitter in the group of 9 transmitter/receivers. Possibly could have the computer in the den playing iTunes, the home theater system in the family room playing the kids' favorite movie and a football game on the TV in the garage, each one connected to one of these devices, and someone in their bedroom could choose which channel they want to listen to. Kind of mind boggling.
oh, as I write this, my wife came home. She, too is pleasantly surprised. Loves having soft classical music playing throughout the house.

(More customer reviews)I've used this now for a week in two rooms, and it works as promised. It saves me from having to use multiple remotes. The only downside is that adds pop up briefly in pop-up windows that block the bottom of the display, which makes it hard to see which remote keypad is displayed (TV,cable box, receiver, or DVD). It has been worth the money! It's nice that it allows you to set up configurations for each room separately. Hope that future software upgrades allow access to more of the customized features of each device such as selecting surround sound options on your receiver while watching TV. Currently just selects the default. Highly recommended.
