1) These nVidia glasses work very well, and the glasses have wider field of view than the eDimensions 3D glasses (which I bought 2 years ago). The 3D effect is fully adjustable in the two key dimensions: separation (amount of 3D effect) and convergence (how far away the objects appear). Having a 60 Hz refresh rate for each eye is critical; my eDimension glasses with an older 60 Hz LCD monitor could only give 30 Hz per eye and lots of flicker. I haven't tried the eDimension with the new 120 Hz monitor.
2) My computer set up is not excessive, but not wimpy either: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.0GHz; nVidia 8800GTS; 2 Gb DDR2-800 RAM; ViewSonic VX2265wm 120Hz LCD monitor; Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit. This is about the bare minimum set up for good 3D.
3) Make sure you uninstall your current GeForce drivers before loading the new GeForce + 3D Vision drivers (collectively downloadable as the "Full Driver CD" from nVidia's website). I had mismatched drivers at first (from Windows 7), and got excessive ghosting and got the right-eye signal going to the left eye. Reinstalling with fresh drivers from nVidia solved the problem. Now I have no ghosting, no flicker, great 3D effect.
4) I've only tested one game so far, World of Warcraft, which looks beautiful. There's a setting in WoW to allow the cursor to adjust its depth to match the interacting object - nice! Takes 15-30 minutes to get used to, but then it's fantastic. Setting the convergence (or "screen depth") to a low value makes the objects appear far away and is easier on the eyes.
5) Caveats: (a) you need Windows Vista or 7; XP will not work. (b) There are only two LCD monitors at the moment that offer true 120 Hz refresh rates: ViewSonic VX2265wm FuHzion 3D/120Hz LCD Display (Black) and Samsung Syncmaster 2233RZ 22" 3D Gaming LCD Monito; many LCD TVs claim 120 Hz, but this is upscaled, and none currently take 120 Hz input; some DLP TVs will work - check nVidia's website.

(More customer reviews)I have always been the type to not really like 3D movies -they cross my eyes and I don't see the effect half the time. I checked out the new glasses at Sams Club and was not all that impressed. Even in the theaters I did not like it that much. Now, I had some reb/blue paper glasses that came with a movie and tried the Tridef software on my laptop with a PC game because I read that a bunch of games were going to have 3D support for the consoles and it was looking pretty good. It was a totally different experience. With just the red/blue glasses, the world had incredible depth and the perception of every object was well defined. I thought to myself, if this looks THAT good with the red/blue glasses, I have to see if I can find something for my 3D DLP... right? Well, I guess the 3D DLPs were designed to use a "checkerboard" type of 3D and to my dismay, all of the consoles would not support it. I was pretty ticked off. I read some good and bad things about the 3D effect on DLPs and decided to take the risk and buy these things. Now you have to use a PC for DLP / Tridef use and I was OK with that because months ago I turned off cable and hooked my desktop PC to the TV so we could watch HULU and Netflix for a fraction of the price.
So, I got the package in the mail 4 days later. I hooked up the sync device and followed their instructions. Five minutes later I was up and running. I turned on Batman: Arkahm Asylum and was very happy with that. I tired Fallout 3 and Half Life 2 and the game look absolutely AMAZING!!!! When you are in a fight and the enemy shoots lasers your way, it comes right out of the screen.
Result, I am very happy and this was worth every penny. I can't wait to play through Fallout: New Vegas with these glasses on. I hope my wife doesn't mind me using the TV for a while... haha.
**Note: make sure you follow the instructions. If it doesn't work at first, you are doing something wrong.

(More customer reviews)I saw this family pack, and since I knew that IO-Display systems was the recommended brand to use on DLP checkerboard format 3D technology, I jumped at the chance. I was still worried I wouldn't be able to get the software on my PC working, plus it was going to cost about $100 USD to buy that software. So I decided to buy the Panasonic blu ray player instead, as it has checker-board format. No one could guarantee my HDMI graphics card and blu ray in my PC would be compatible with 3D programing, so I decided not to take the chance. Maybe later after the price drops on the software.
The glasses worked right out of the box with absolutely no problems that were anything the fault of the design. I just had to make sure the emitter that comes with the package is centered in front of the TV and pointed toward the viewing area. Some folks would probably attach it on top of the HDTV, but I didn't try that. Once the emitter is placed correctly the glasses pick the signal up quite well and I had no more problems. I could move my head around quite a bit and not lose the signal, so that is not a disadvantage of this system. Some people complain about the frumpy look of all 3D glasses, like they are going to a fashion show or something, I think these look the coolest; because they remind me of the protective glasses atomic scientists in the late forties used!
The youngest member of my group decided he didn't like the glasses because he wasn't used to wearing glasses, but his brother who already wears glasses didn't seem to mind at all. I am used to wearing all kinds of appendages on my face and head, as I was in the Army, and did industrial work with every kind of tool, mask, safety goggle, you name it on my face - so for me, I hardly noticed them. Especially when the movie started!! They are VERY light and fit over your prescription glasses very handily - and my glasses are pretty thick. Each one is powered by two small batteries, that look like the type a lot of cameras use, so I don't think it will be a problem finding replacements. I'd rather do batteries that fool around with clumsy cables any-day! You shut the glasses off by simply closing them, so there are no fancy switches to mess with. There are no indicator lights to see, but you will instantly notice the 3D image, so there will be no doubt it works!!!
I had always heard the old DLP checkerboard technology was way obsolete, but DO NOT discount it!! I was getting positive results similar to those related in Consumers Union comparable to the better high end systems, and I can attest this is close to the top!! Now I must admit, my old Samsung LED DLP won't give me the eye-popping 3D that jumps out of the screen at you; but that is the only disadvantage. This is just a limitation of present DLP technology. The performance with these glasses was excellent - with very little ghosting. You only noticed it when the subject matter had a bright background like an early morning sky. The rest of the time, I never noticed any. I saw no artifacts,smearing, or smudging in action events, and the color was accurate.
At first you notice things looks a little darker, like you're watching with slightly tinted sunglasses, but if you play with the TV control to bring up the brightness, I never noticed after that. I was watching a movie that was almost all in darkness or semi-darkness called Legends of the Guardians, that had owls in many twilight scenes, so that movie looked dark anyway. Everything was perfectly clear, and the color was fantastic, with no strange affects there. The 3D contrast was impressive, so there is no need worrying about whether things jump off the screen, because they look like they are about to anyway. Besides, you would have to buy a top rated Panasonic plasma that was featured in CU, if you want something better. No thanks, I don't like plasmas, with their horribly shiny screens; I am extremely satisfied with mine. In fact - I think I'll wait until the Laser Vue gets more affordable, as I understand it will be capable of doing the new polarized glasses thing like you see in the movie houses.
I think that is why the prices are dropping, as this technology will be totally obsolete in a few years. Don't discount the quality of shutter glasses yet - though - the VISIO 65" set that has polarized glasses will only have HALF the vertical resolution of this arrangement of mine, so you will lose some quality going that route. My 3D is full 1920 X 1080p, so I'm not losing out of anything really. Right now only a few sets are capable of beating this, and you can read about them on Consumer's Report, if you can stand the disadvantages of those sets, that is!
Getting into 3D technology is fraught with bad or no information. So to save space here now - I invite you to ask questions in the comment sections and I will try to answer any concerns you may have. I hope you all don't pull you hair like I did trying to find out what glasses did this, and what TV did that, etc. I can definitely recommend this deal, and the people at IO-Display will provide phone help if you can't get your merchant to answer questions about this technology. I say they got probably the best support of any of the places I've called, and they've been in the business of true 3D longer than many of them. They also have a 3D image test page; a very handy troubleshooting option!
I am not a paid reviewer, but I wouldn't want anyone to go through the torture I did to get where I am. You can go to Tru3D to see what equipment is mixed and matched to get the right result, but I don't think they list these glasses. They do list almost everything else. As long as you are using a DLP rear projection HDTV with a PS/2 type emitter output, you should be able to use these cheaper glasses. IO-Display has a list of compatible sets on their site. Lower price does not mean lower quality! Be careful - and GOOD LUCK!!

Sony 3DBNDL/ALICE 3D Deluxe Starter Kit, Black Review

(More customer reviews)This kit contains everything you need to make use of the 3D features of a Sony 3D-capable television.
Installation is dead simple: Turn off the TV. Plug the emitter cable into the special jack on the back of the television, attach the emitter itself someplace for maximum room coverage, and you're almost good to go. The manual suggested attaching the emitter in front of the set, attached to the TV base, for those not having the TV mounted on the wall, but we found we got better coverage with it on top of the set.
It's also recommended to use the HDMI cable included in the kit to connect your 3D-capable blu-ray player or PS3 to the television, because it's guaranteed to support 3D data transfer speeds.
One thing I did need to do, since we'd been using our firmware-upgraded Playstation 3 -before- adding the 3D accessories, was to go into the PS3 video settings and set it to recognize the new configuration. Once I did this, 3D options became available on several of the games already on the PS3, and the "Alice" 3D blu-ray was recognized as playable (1st attempt, the PS3 said we didn't have accessible 3D equipment, which was my clue to go check).
Turn on the glasses with the little button under the front right temple hinge, and enjoy.
The 3D experience was pretty awesome, the illusion of depth is undeniable and convincing, and it increases the immersive feel of movies, although it does take some getting used to. Also, for some reason, one of the sets of included shutter glasses fits me well, while the other doesn't. No clue as to why the difference.
Note: This kit only includes two pair of adult-sized glasses. If you have more family members and/or young kids or older youths, you may want to buy more pairs. Get Sonys or the Xpand universal shutter glasses, or they won't work (each manufacturer uses a slightly different standard, not unlike the way a remote control for one TV brand won't work for other brands).
Pros:
- The Sony glasses seemed sturdier and better made than other models (Sony, Samsung, and Panasonic were those I tested and compared at a local Costco), and were among the most comfortable
- Undeniably solid 3D effects with minimal ghosting, mostly caused by me shifting my head around too much because I was eating dinner while watching the movie
- 3D video games are quite amazing (Super Stardust HD was free along with several other downloadable 3D PS3 games as bonus gifts with our Sony Bravia TV -- and it's incredible)
- The simulated 3D was kind of neat, although I can't see using this feature much
Cons:
- The shutter glasses work by blocking your vision in alternating eyes with LCD lenses. Unavoidably, this causes your TV to look dimmer and darker. A way around this is to adjust the TV picture to Vivid, image and backlighting both to Max, Cinemotion OFF (reduces shutter-flicker, especially with the simulated 3D mode), color temperature to Cool. Setting Motion-Flow to Standard also seemed to improve the picture crispness and clarity, although we never use the feature outside of 3D because it looks too weird.
- Obviously if you have only one functioning eye (and thus no actual depth perception), this product is not for you.
- The glasses are a little heavy and can be tiring during a long film, and while they're designed to fit over normal prescription eyeglasses, some folks' eye-wear might be too large.
- There just aren't very many 3D films available yet, although with this year's major manufacturer push to make the home equipment available, this should go up and the prices come down. That said, the prices for the 3D versions of 'Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs' and 'Open Season' (both are animated films) are reasonable. We'll probably see lots of Pixar films released in 3D blu-ray before long, because the re-encoding isn't that difficult for the studios to do. Be careful when shopping for 3D movies, because quite a few of them are the old-style blue-and-red nausea-inducing kind, and not these new shutter-glasses films. Amazon helpfully lists all the genuine new 3D blu-rays on a special page...which, if you go look, is sadly short in length.
Important note: If you are buying this Sony 3D kit in the hope of picking up a copy of "Avatar" in 3D soon, forget it unless you have a lot of disposable income. Panasonic locked in exclusive rights (reportedly for a full year), and right now the only way to get Avatar 3D is to buy their 3D accessory kit or look for other people selling their copy on eBay (and as of Dec 2010, several hundred bucks a copy, which is even more ridiculous). If you do acquire a copy of the disc, it will play on the Sony equipment however, as will any other 3D blu-ray disc.
Another note: If you got this kit along with a new Sony Bravia 3D-ready TV, go through all the papers and inserts that came with it, along with any other new Sony equipment you may have purchased recently. With the new TV, I found the 3D Playstation 3 free games offer, and a bonus from Sony to receive two 3D blu-ray discs (Bolt (yay!) and Michael Jackson (meh)) just for registering the television on their website.
Would I recommend this product to others? Yes.
Why four stars instead of five? Two factors: The current extreme paucity of 3D blu-ray movies available, and the difficulty I've had in getting a really good, comfortable fit with the glasses, although I'm doubtful any of the other models are better.

(More customer reviews)A parital reason I decided to go with Sony for my new HD3dTV was the performance of the the 3d shutter glasses and their comfort. Glasses are not really the correct terms as these are more like goggles that will fit over a pair of regular glasses. They are totaly enclosed and shut out most light from the tops and sides. They do dim the picture a bit but most 3dTV's compensate for this by getting much brighter in 3d mode. They work well with in the the range they are intended. If you tilt your head more than 10 degrees of so either left or right the 3d effect is lost. Opperation is simple with a single button to push on and off. They're semi adjustable for those with smaller heads but if you have small children like me then you will need to get the BR50's which are narrower lighter and more like a regular pair of glasses. Part of what I enjoyed was the fact that they do block most ambient light from all but in front. They are fairly hefty and you will start to feel their wieght right about the time the credits role in a two hour movie, but then I don't normally wear glasses and I start to feel that way after two hours in a pair of sunshades, YMMV. Unlike the Panasonics and Samsungs glasses I tried, you can still opperate a laptop or anything else with them on and not get a lot of flicker. The other brands tended to cause every other light source to flicker except for the TV's which only flickered when the glasses were out of sync. The Sony's sync very qucikly and don't reset during bright parts of the movie ala the Panasonics. They could be lighter but frankly they feel quite sturdy and not nearly as fragile FEELING as other brands I've tried. They are battery powered by a standard CR2032 watch battery and last for about 80 hours of viewing. If you watched a 2 hour 3d movie every night, plus a football game every week they'd last just over a month. That was a concern for me until I did the math. The Sony sell for about $100 vs the other brand reacharbles which go for $150. With batteries selling for about $8 for a pack of 10 it would take 4 years of watching at that rate to see any savings on the rechargables. Overall they work well though I wished they came with a hard case instead a velvet pouch.
