SVAT GX3000 Wireless Four Channel Analog Audio/Video Sender and Receiver Review

SVAT GX3000 Wireless Four Channel Analog Audio/Video Sender and Receiver

I bought this transmitter receiver to watch cable in a room with no line access. I placed the receiver about 15 feet away from the cable box and transmitter, and it still did not work. The best reception I got was by holding the receiver above my head as close to the door as possible - not practical for everyday use. In addition, answering the phone caused more static, a "flipping" screen, and crackling sound. Basically, if you do not have a wireless network or a cordless phone, and have direct line of sight between the units, this unit will probably work for you. I don't know anyone that falls in this category...

Wavecom Jr. RF-Link 2.4GHz Wireless Audio/Video Transmitter Review

Wavecom Jr. RF-Link 2.4GHz Wireless Audio/Video Transmitter

Box says 300ft range (clear line of site), penetrates floors and ceilings. OK, clearly I don't expect a 300ft range through floors and ceilings. However, for my use (trying to transmit a signal from one room to another, about 75ft, through 2 walls and a floor) this was totally useless. I FINALLY got it to connect, and play audio without unbearable static: by placing the transmitter and receiver directly across from eachother on opposite sides of a wall. It would not work if I asked it to transmit (only about 10ft) through the wall at an angle; it had to be perpendicular to the wall. Endless fiddling with antenna orientations couldn't give me a workable solution. When I opened the box, I was really happy: it included an infared link, and the receiver transcodes the composite video input into a coax signal that an old TV might use (has composite output too). That's all great- but are useless features if the signal can't reach the receiver. Going to see if I can return it for a refund :-(

I bought this to transmit PBS Kids channel from my 2nd satellite receiver in the basement to my toddle's room on the 2nd floor. Great reception if I turned off my 2.4GHz wireless network router and did not talk on my 2.4GHz cordless phone. With the router on, I got a strobing horizontal line down the screen. With the cordless phone, pressing the Talk button to use the phone killed the signal. I returned the product to the store.
If you don't have other 2.4GHz devices it seems like it will work well for you.

Wireless Audio/Video Sender/Receiver System Review

Wireless Audio/Video Sender/Receiver System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Okay, bear with me as I unpack the product - first, two sets of RCA cables for stereo audio and composite video, the receiver, the transmitter, a tiny instruction manual, and ... a power supply? No. Just one cable that plugs into the DC input of one of the two units with two exposed wires on the other end that I can, well... solder to a 12V power supply I have lying around somewhere?!
It may not be apparent from the product description, but this unit does not come with its own power supply! It's up to you to provide 12V to each of the two boxes. How many Ampere? How would I know! The instruction manual just says to hook up "any 10-15V power supply".
Well, if you have a couple of general-purpose power supplies in your garage, you can try the product itself. And you'll regret that. The sound quality is a joke, you'll essentially just hear static. I tried putting the two units next to each other with the antennas effectively touching each other, and it was still just noise with a bit of sound. At some point - after choosing the right channel, and when aligning the antennas with the moon, you will hear something, but the quality is still horrific, with a tiny frequency range that makes it sound like you're transmitting the music through a phone connection.
Most of the wireless devices in the area where I tired it ran at a different band, so I can't blame interference. It seems like the device is just bad, plain and simple. There's nothing good I could say about the little details on the side either: There are no LEDs or anything, so you can't tell whether the sender is turned off or if it just sucks. The units themselves are relatively small, if a bit ugly.
All in all, the power supply situation alone is beyond belief. This unit is supposed to be used inside buildings, where you typically don't have exposed 12V cables that you can hook your gadgets to. I could understand it if this unit was designed to be used in a car, but anything that sees its primary application inside buildings needs to come with proper 110V power supplies. But even if it did, the quality is absolutely unacceptable and makes it impossible to recommend this product.

Terk TECHNOLOGY LF10S HomeNetwork Remote Video System Review

Terk TECHNOLOGY LF10S HomeNetwork Remote Video System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this item after having tried the Terk LF30S wireless system, which my 2.4Ghz cordless phone interferred with. Aside from the problems my phone caused with the wireless system, I feel that the wirless LF30S Wavemaster 30 delivered a slightly better picture. That's not to say that this item doesn't (well, read on), but I feel that it is slightly less sharp.
I first hooked up the LF10S to my phone jacks as the instructions say. However, the picture was fuzzy and the sound had static in it. Although I consider the phone wiring in my home to be in good shape, I guessed that there was just too much of it running all over the house, thus degrading the signal from the LF10S. Not being one to give up, and also being one that is relatively handy, I decided to run a dedicated phone wire from my living room to the bedroom, where I wanted the receiver to be. Aprox. $15 (100 ft. of phone wire & two surface-mount jacks) and an hour later, I had my dedicated phone line installed and tried it out. Much better!! I heard absolutely no static, and the picture was very clear. Although I previously stated that the LF30S wireless picture was sharper, that is not to say that the LF10S picture is not clear. I think most people probably wouldn't even notice the difference.
If you don't use any wireless devices that use the 2.4Ghz frequency (cordless phones or wireless networking devices), I would recommend the wireless LF30S Wavemaster 30. If you can't go wireless, then I would recommend this product on the basis of its video and audio quality, but be prepared to be slightly disappointed with the results from using your regular phone jacks. If you have a basement with an "open" ceiling like me (or even a crawl space), running a dedicated phone line would be easy to do, and would make a huge difference, especially if you do have poor picture and sound from your regular phone jacks. Even if you can't get underneath your floor or behind walls, you could even run a phone wire along the baseboard to the other room.

LEAPFROG LF30S Wavemaster 30 2.4 GHz A/V Distribution System with Remote Control Extender Review

LEAPFROG LF30S Wavemaster 30 2.4 GHz A/V Distribution System with Remote Control Extender
Average Reviews:

First off, the actual item looks just like the one without the remote extender not the one pictured. I installed the Remote TV in my kitchen which is next to my living room. I can see the kitchen from the living room, but I can't see the Living Room TV from the kitchen, hence the extender.
Pros: Works pretty well, video and audio are in sync and with the right cables, you can still use your regular TV to watch the same show as what's on the remote TV. The picture quality is quite good, although i'm only using a 20" TV. The IR extender works pretty flawlessly in remote location. Once you realize the antennas are directional and you aim them at each other it works great.
Cons: If you walk through the directional antenna signal, picture drops out, which is why the manual says to mount them as high as possible to avoid interruption. In my situation, I can see the IR repeater from my living room and thus when I try to change channels by aiming at the TV, it doesn't work because it gets my signal, then it gets the repeated signal and it must distort both the signals. Also, I've noticed that on one of the four channels, my Internet Wireless g network is completely undetectable if I'm too close to the repeaters. My solution was to turn off the repeaters when I'm not using them to save power and let my remotes and wireless network work.
Overall: the product has some flaws in my specific application, but over the long run, I think it will prove it's convenience as a worthwhile investment.

I have been pleased with the unit so far. Sends the D-TV signal roughly 75ft across the house with good picture and sound quality. I read the reviews about these units not working after a few weeks, but mine has been working almost every day since Christmas 2008. I turn transmitter and receiver off after every use. Good Luck!

RF Link AVS-5812 Wireless Audio/Video Sender (5.8 GHz) Review

RF Link AVS-5812 Wireless Audio/Video Sender (5.8 GHz)
Average Reviews:

This product would be great - if it worked.
I bought this product and it worked great... as advertised... I loved it. Audio, video, IR (remote) worked and were clear. One morning, about 45 days after I bought it, it just stopped working. Assuming the problem was environmental, I had the unit extensively tested by an A/V pro. It was clearly the unit. So I contacted the manufacturer and sent it back. I had high hopes that I just got a lemon, and the next unit would be fine.
The second unit failed within two days (different type of failures). Again I had it checked out, and had the setup and placement checked thoroughly - I mean, what are the odds that two units would fail? Once again, defective equipment, and once again I sent it back.
Third unit lasted a couple of weeks - then failed.
DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. I have extensive A/V experience and love the idea of this product. Don't buy a product that will fail in a couple of days or months. Find another solution.

This Terk add on, was purchased for the TV that I have on the enclosed front porch of my home. I use one in my office with with master control off of the bedroom (with full cable access). It work great. Whatever the tv in the bedroom is tuned to, the tv's that the add on's are connected to also show.
And I have to tell you, the picture is very clear, and the sound is great. One concern. If you have a 4.5mz cordless phone, you will have to pull the plug while using this system. Or you will have a line across the screen. I have a line phone so it doesn't matter, but take it into account when ordering. In all though, I highly recommend this item.

The Terk LF30-RX acts as an extra receiver for the LF-30S Leapfrog A/V system, helping users transmit and receive wireless audio and video signals throughout the house. Thanks to the LF-30S (sold separately), users can store all their A/V components, including satellite receivers, DVRs, DVD players, or camcorders, in one room, while watching audio and video footage in other rooms--all without running any wires on the floor or through the walls. The handy system also eliminates the necessity of buying extra components for each TV. Users can even transmit audio files, such as MP3 or WMA music, from an office computer to a pair of powered speakers in the living room.
The LF30-RX receiver is an add-on to the LF-30S, which initially comes with one transmitter and one receiver. This LF30-RX connects to a second TV or speaker system through its stereo RCA audio and video outputs or its coaxial F-type RF output. Once connected, it transmits IR remote commands to the main transmitter, and then receives clear, crisp signals across the 2.4 GHz frequency band. The system offers a generous range of 150 feet, and easily penetrates walls, doors, ceilings, and floors without interference. In addition, a built-in modulator ensures that you can connect to any TV, whether brand-new or old.
And though the LF30-RX is a single unit, users can also buy additional LF30-RX receivers to connect even more TVs to the wireless system. The receiver measures 5.5 by 1.75 by 3.75 inches (W x H x D).

This product is the best consumer product available for this type of A/V transmission. Using the 5.8MHz band keeps it free of the dreaded microwave oven interference, as well as interference from most cordless telephones. The picture is good, though not perfect. But it's more than adequate for all but the largest TVs (great for a kitchen-sized screen). Be sure to experiment with all four channels to find the one that works best.
The only glitch I have found is with the power. Occasionally the A/V link would fail and I would have to restart either the sender or the receiver, depending on which one failed. Also, occasionally the channel selection would change spontaneously on one unit or the other, thus breaking the link. I solved both of these problems by installing small APC battery backups on both sender and receiver unit. I think electrical storms were at the root of both problems. Since then, I haven't had a single recurrence. I've used these units now for over two years.
We don't use the IR link because we have a different one (made by RCA) that works well and serves other devices not connected by the AVS-5811/5813.

RF-Link AVS-5811 5.8GHz Audio and Video Transmission System with IR Repeater Review

RF-Link AVS-5811 5.8GHz Audio and Video Transmission System with IR Repeater

I'm a hi-tech gadget guy who is hard to please, but this far exceeded my expectations! I have it connected from a bedroom Directv Receiver(6" from a 2.4GHZ wireless PC lan) to a kitchen 15" Magnanox LCD TV sitting 12" below a micrwave oven without interference from microwave or lan! I'm even transmitting through 6 walls and a 5 gal. metal potato chip bucket and people walking in the kitchen without affecting the picture! I was getting a super picture w/o even having 1 antenna directly facing the other antenna. I thought I was going to have to run between floors for hours until everything was aligned perfectly - it only took 15 seconds because alignment is very forgiving. Picture quality is 5 star crystal clear with no lines, static, etc. All TV channels are 5 star and the HDTV stations blew me away even though I know its not sending true HDTV though the avs-5811.
What surprised me most was that I could use my bedroom Directv remote (down in the kitchen) to change channels (up in the bedroom) by simply pointing at the (kitchen)avs-5811 receiver. It sends the remote control signal upstairs to a "mouse" that you place in front of your TV receiver, cable box, etc, IR sensor. I had a spare remote so I keep 1 in kitchen and 1 in bedroom for convenience.
The owners manual iS POOR and doesn't tell you all this, but basically I can point the remote at the avs-5811 receiver in kitchen requesting a Directv channel change (or any other remote control function) in the upstairs bedroom. The avs-5811 transmitter in the bedroom receives the request and sends it through the "mouse" to the Directv Receiver which changes the channel as requested and the new channel video and sound is return to the kitchen! Pure magic and ingenious!
It is a very cost effective way, without losing picture quality and convenience, to avoid running cables and drill holes through my tiled walls or granite counters.

The average home entertainment system once consisted of a TV, stereo, and maybe a cable box. Now a modern system may also include a DVD player, satellite receiver, surround sound amplifier, digital video recorder, and an HD tuner, along with a PC designed to serve as a digital hub for certain audio/video functions. The RF Link AVS-5811 takes A/V technology to the next logical step by wirelessly transmitting audio and video signals from these components to any nearby TV, monitor, or stereo system, letting you enjoy vivid video and hi-fi stereo sound anywhere in the house. The A/V sender effectively lets you send signals to components located upstairs, several rooms away, or elsewhere without running bulky, space-consuming cables in the walls or under the floorboards. With the AVS-5811, viewers can watch simultaneous DVD or satellite programming on upstairs and downstairs TVs, or listen to their favorite tunes on stereos in three different rooms--all without wires. They can also use the sender to watch live video from a camcorder or CCD camera in a remote location, whether for security or entertainment purposes. Users who edit video or capture footage from TV programs on their computers will also find plenty to like about the device, as they can easily send the video from their Macs or PCs directly to a living room TV for viewing.
The AVS-5811 comes with a 5.8 GHz wireless transmitter and a receiver with four selectable channels. Unlike more common 2.4 GHz transmitters, the AVS-5811 doesn't share a band with Bluetooth devices, cordless phones, 801.11b wireless LAN networks, and microwave ovens, ensuring a sharp, interference-free video signal. The four channels are also a bonus, as it lets users set up multiple transmitters and receivers in the same area without cross-channel noisiness. In addition, the sender includes a built-in IR remote extender that controls components from a distance, so a user can mute the bedroom TV while relaxing on the living room sofa, for instance. The sender features an NTSC/PAL video system and transmits to distances as great as 400 feet without obstructions. It's also relatively compact at 6.5 by 4.13 by 10.5 inches (W x H x D).
