HP Remote IR receiver (paintbrush) - For use with Picasso remote control 5070-2584 Review

HP Remote IR receiver (paintbrush) - For use with Picasso remote control 5070-2584

I Have been using the 5070-2584 ir receiver (and the blaster cable 5188-6055) with my HP notebook. It's great. Just follow the windows media center setup instructions and you'll have a dvr. It works with any provider's settop box. I have Directv. The photo doesn't show the blaster cable (emitter cable that goes to the settop box infra-red window). And the receiver is pretty generic. It's used on a huge number of products, so ignore the Picasso reference.

CE LABS CAT5RX CAT-5 HD A/V Receiver Review

CE LABS CAT5RX CAT-5 HD A/V Receiver

This product, when combined with the CAT5TX transmitter, provides an excellent quality solution for making a long run of component video. This receiver unit has an adjustment knob for tuning the picture for lengths of 100-500 feet. This made me a little concerned about my use, which was with a run of about 50' or less. No worries, though: I just left the adjustment turned down all the way, and the picture and sound are perfect. I honestly do not see any difference between the picture with this system or with the components connected directly to the TV.

Keyspan ER-V2 RF Remote for Windows Vista Review

Keyspan ER-V2 RF Remote for Windows Vista
Average Reviews:

First off, this remote was shipped quite rapidly. I received it only three days after placing the order.
Out of the box it has a light, but solid feel. The plastic feels tight and does not flex or make noises. It seems like it'll be able to stand up to some wear and tear.
I plugged the receiver into the 32-bit Windows Vista Home Premium box that I built, and it was instantly recognized and ready to use. Thanks to the RF receiver, the range on this is great. I have the receiver plugged in behind my computer and I can point the remote away from the computer and still have reception.
The functions of the remote seem pretty standard for a Windows Media Center Device. One feature I didn't notice before purchasing is that it has a button that can put the computer in and out of standby. Another cool thing I've discovered is that this remote has some limited functionality with iTunes. Stop, play, forward, reverse, and pause all work. The volume on the iTunes volume slider will not change by pushing the volume controls, though.
I'm very happy with this product and would definitely recommend to people looking for a quality remote.

Infrared Receiver Extender Cable for HD DVR STB's Review

Infrared Receiver Extender Cable for HD DVR STB's

My FIOS HD (non-DVR) box series QIP6200 had a port labeled "IR". With some internet investigation and an impressivly prompt email reply from the vendor IR-Resources I learned that my FIOS box had only either an IR-output or a service port...which was why the IR receiver would not work.
The GREAT news for me was that Verizon (with one phone call & a later trip to the local Verizon center) did a no-cost swap to an updated FIOS HD (non-DVR) box QIP7100 series that had "IR INPUT" port. The IR Recieiver works 1000% as I expected with the 7100 series box. I am now able to put my FIOS box inside a closed door entertainment unit and still have full remote control functions.
Delivery was prompt, the items (I bought 2) were well wrapped etc. and were exactly as represented. The receiver head is small & pretty much invisible on the black frame of my plasma TV and the 9 foot lead wire was plenty......
I'm not sure what happened to the other reviewers but when I first contacted IR Resources they willingly offered me a full refund if I so desired. They also followed thru promptly to update the Amzon posting as not-compatable w/ the Verizon 6000 series ......and again I CAN NOT SAY ENOUGH POSITIVE THINGS ABOUT HOW VERY VERY VERY PROMPTLY IR-RESOURCES REPLIED TO MY EMAIL SENT VIA AMAZON. If only every internet vendor was this responsible!!!

Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 PCI TV Tuner with Remote Control (1045) Review

Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 PCI TV Tuner with Remote Control (1045)

I wanted to put a TV in my child's play room, which also had a computer. This device enables me to use the computer as a TV. It works great, my 4 year old has no problem using it.
I installed the device in my only PCI slot, hooked my cable coax into it, started my PC, and the drivers automatically loaded. I have XP SP2. The whole process took about 10 minutes. The software then starts and after about 5 minutes, goes through the cable channels to store the channels. Then, you are ready to go.
The unit is equipped with a remote. The remote points to an "eye". The eye is attached to a medium-sized small cord that is attached to the PCI card (under the coax cable). You are able to position the eye where you want it, although the cord the eye is on is not long. If you have a desktop sitting on the floor, it will barely reach the top of a computer desk. I taped the cord just under my keyboard shelf, so the remote needs to be pointed low.
The functionality of the software is great. You can change the channel with the computer or remote. There is a button to enable "full screen" on the computer, but not on the remote. The picture is excellent. The ability to pause live TV, or record ad-hoc or timed works extremely well.
This is a great product.

The installation instructions were abbreviated...a little too abbreviated. The drivers didn't install properly and I was afraid I had made a mistakein buying this card. I downloaded the newest software from the website, and in the process figured out what the problem was with the original install. Once I had that done I started to receive some channels, but not all. It was through a trial error process I was able to figure out that in order to receive all TV channels and FM radio I needed an antenna connected to all three inputs. It's not an easy trick because of the limited space between the connectors. It also makes the back of the PC a little messy. The instructions for the operation software were also quite brief and very vague, and that took some time to work through as well
But I eventually figured everything out and I'm glad I did. Using a P4 2.99 ghz and XP Pro SP 3 and an HP 2207h HD monitor the picture is as clear as it is on my large HDTV. I am very impressed. I've used the record function and it works very well, as does the screen shot feature. Now that it's up and working I think my wife could sit down and watch TV on it with little or no instruction from me, so that learning curve is very short.
Don't expect to stick this card in and be up and running in 5 minutes. And don't buy this card if you are a computer or a/v neophyte - you'll be disappointed. But if you know your way around software installs and enjoy fiddling around with something like this and the satisfaction of getting it working it is does a VERY good job.

The Hauppauge 1183 WinTV HVR-1600 Internal PCI Dual TV Tuner/Video Recorder Media Center Kit includes dual TV tuners to let you watch both digital and analog television on your PC, in a window or full screen. With PVR software and built-in hardware for MPEG-2 encoding, you can also record television onto your computer for viewing later without slowing down your computer. The WinTV application offers an elegant interface to watch TV in a window or full screen. View larger.Watch High-definition Digital TV on Your Computer With dual format TV tuners, the WinTV-HVR-1600 lets you watch ATSC digital TV as well as QAM digital TV and analog cable TV. ATSC digital TV, which typically requires an antenna for reception, is the over-the-air HDTV standard for North America. ATSC broadcasts range in resolution from standard definition up to the high definition 1080i format. (To check the ATSC digital transmissions in your area, input your zip code at titantv.com.)The WinTV-HVR-1600 also lets you watch and record QAM channels, which are unencrypted digital channels broadcast by your local cable operator. If you don't have access to digital television channels yet, you can also watch regular analog cable television. And with the included remote control, you can control your cable TV or satellite set top box.In addition to high-definition video, the card also features a dbx-TV stereo decoder for great TV sound. The card has Composite/S-Video and audio inputs that allow for connecting VCRs or cable/satellite set top boxes and an FM radio tuner that lets you listen to your favorite FM radio broadcasts.Your Own Personal Digital Video Recorder! With the included software, you can easily record TV shows to your hard disk using MPEG-2. Several recording options are available depending on your playback needs; higher quality video requires more disk space. Generally, 5 GB of disk space is used per hour of ATCS digital TV recordings. Thanks to the built-in hardware MPEG-2 encoder, your PC continues to run at full speed even while recording. With the WinTV-Scheduler software, you can easily schedule the recordings of your favorite television shows daily, weekly, or just once. You can then play back the recordings at your leisure, burn them onto CD or DVD for playback on another computer or your television, or with video editing software (not included), you can edit the shows. This is great for saving favorite movie clips, or of your favorite teams dramatic last-second win or your favorite player's grand slam. The Hauppauge 1138 WinTV-HVR-1600 plugs into a PCI slot and is compatible with Windows Vista, XP with Service Pack 2, and Windows XP Media Center Edition. Noah Company MediaGate GP-IR02BK Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows Vista Ultimate MCE Remote Control, 2 Channel IR (Black) Review

Noah Company MediaGate GP-IR02BK Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows Vista Ultimate MCE Remote Control, 2 Channel IR (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This remote seems to work well for the basic MCE functionality, but it has some issues that hamper its usability (for me.)
First, the "learning" feature that's been mentioned elsewhere. The MS remote for MCE has the ability to "learn" to turn your TV on/off, and to adjust the volume on your stereo (or TV.) This remote mentions such a feature in the manual ("if available"), but the version sold here doesn't actually have this feature. Having to juggle three remotes gets cumbersome, especially when the "standard" MCE remote doesn't have this problem.
Second is response time. As implied in my previous paragraph, I also have an MS MCE remote. The MS remote/receiver is quite responsive. With this remote you have to hold down each button longer for it to "register" as a button-click with the receiver. At first I thought it was an issue with the remote itself, but I later realized it's an issue with the receiver. (The receiver that came with this remote will work with the MS remote, but it still has a "sluggish" response time. No such issue if I go back to the MS receiver.) If you're used to clicking through menus (or commercials) quickly, this gets aggravating because it doesn't register some of your clicks.
Finally, this remote is extremely lightweight. It has no heft to it. This might actually be a good thing if it weren't for the learning issue, but since I'm not actually using the remote for its intended purpose, this means I can't even use it as a paperweight on my coffee table.
