(More customer reviews)I purchased this microphone just prior to taking off on a two-week video shoot in SE Asia. I was a bit apprehensive about relying so heavily on a mic about which I wasn't able to get much information before purchasing. After having used the mic quite extensively for a couple of weeks, I can now breathe a sigh of relief and report that overall this is a very good microphone for the price. Its selection of frequencies and other user-changeable features are good, though its menu system is not intuitive and requires keeping the manual close by.
My main criticism is its cheap plastic construction, typical with Sony products at this price point. It only took a few days to break the "foot" on the shoe mount.
Overall, I am relatively happy with this purchase and would recommend this mic, but I would also strongly recommend a good hard case in which to store it (no case is included).

The Sony UWP Series Bodypack Transmitter with Omni-Directional Lavalier Mic for the UWP-C1 Wireless System comes supplied with an omni-directional lavalier microphone. This bodypack transmitter is ideally suited for news gathering, interviews, talk shows and conferences. Key to achieving stable transmission & reception is the use of a stable carrier signal to avoid interference with other frequency channels & to allow the selection of a preferred channel from multiple frequencies. The UWP series achieves this by using a UHF Phase Locked Loop frequency synthesized system, which provides the use of accurate carrier signal frequencies. This system is used in both the transmitter & tuners, so that a stable carrier is gene rated at the transmitter & accurately tuned in at the tuner. This PLL-controlled system provides highly stable, user-selectable frequencies in increments of 125 kHz. When operating a wireless microphone system, it is essential that the tuner not pick up carrier signals transmitted from other systems. In order to avoid this, the UWP series transmitters transmit a 32 kHz pilot-tone signal along with the audio signal. The squelch circuit of the UWP series tuners recognizes this tone signal and output the audio signal only when this tone signal is received.
