Audiovox D2010 10.2-Inch Widescreen Ultraslim Portable DVD Player Review

Audiovox D2010 10.2-Inch Widescreen Ultraslim Portable DVD Player

It all began after a few hours worth of use, the head began to jump and thrash inside the unit. Brand new player and a new DVD. I called Audiovox and was told that DVD was scratched or dirty. I repeated that I had tried several DVDs fresh out of their cases with the same results. OK, then the tech decided the head was dirty and I was instructed that I must buy and use a DVD head cleaner, a disc that looks like a false eyelash has been glued to it. I mentioned that this DVD player was brand new and nothing had been allowed to near the head. In the end, I bought a cleaner and the problem persisted.
The second call to Audiovox went the same, though I told them it happen when using brand new DVDs, the DVD must be scratched or dirty. Once we got past that, the head was dirty, though the unit was new and I had now used a head cleaner. Eventually this tech caved in and told me what to do to send the unit in for repair.
Over three weeks later we received a refurbished player tossed into a box without the batteries for the headphones and the remote. A quick call to the support department got me the watch battery for the remote, but they forgot the headphone batteries.
This one seemed to work fine, until the night we tried to watch Return of the King, halfway through... whirrrr... clunk... clunk... burp... clunk... whirrrr... (It really hates the transition point on dual layer DVDs)
Another phone call to Audiovox and the same response, "the DVD or the head must be dirty"... I gave up...
-----
As others have said, the sound really is weak and "tinny" and unless you can keep your head still for an entire movie, the wireless headphones are worthless. Plus the fact that you may be gambling on getting a junk player (If you do, save yourself the hassle and three week wait by taking it straight back to the store.) caused me to rate this player so low.

XO Vision IR620 Universal IR Wireless Foldable Headphones for In-Car Video Listening Review

I have a 2009 Honda Pilot and 3 kids and the Honda's DVD Entertainment system only comes with 2 headsets. Hondas headsets are about $40-$50 each and since I don't think any headset will last with my kids, I decided to try XO Vision. These headphones work with the DVD system, sound pretty good, fit head sizes both large and small at a fraction of the Honda OEM headset price. I decided to get two pairs as back up or to entertain others. For the price of under $20 you can't go wrong.

PYLE PLD72BK Adjustable Headrests w/ Built-In 7'' TFT/LCD Monitor w/ Built in DVD Player & IR/FM Transmitter With Cover (Black) Review

Highs: 1yr warranty. Better quality than non-branded units on ebay. Ability to connect 2 headrests together to play and watch from either or both headrests. Infra-Red headphone capable but not included.
Lows: Games/game controller are low quality. No headphones.
I purchased this Pyle DVD headrest to replace a similar looking non-branded DVD headrest that I purchased on ebay that only lasted 30days before the display went out. I will never get burned by ebay and questionable sellers with no warrany and a 7-day return policy again. Note: I wasn't able to leave feedback to warn others on ebay because it was past 30days. Ebay simply said Oh-well, that's our policy.
This Pyle DVD headrest has a 1 year warranty and it has the video/audio in/out cables to connect 2 of these DVD headrest in the car. The kids love the option of watching their own movie or watching the same movie. Our kids are 6 and 8, so my wife or I usually have to get the movies going because the remote might be confusing, at least until they get used to it.
The Pyle DVD headrest is better quality than the ebay unit I replaced. For example, the hinge is more robust and the flat, flexible ribbon cables have a strain relief and guide to prevent damage. All around it seems that Pyle's engineering specified a higher end product. The instruction manual is also better than the off-brand unit that I have.
The IR headphones that we had from the previous headrest work perfect with the Pyle DVD headrest and have both A and B channels. I wish Pyle included a set.
Don't buy it for the games.

On long trips, it\'s important to keep the backseat entertained and the driver comfortable. That\'s where this black adjustable headrest with built in 7" LCD monitor, DVD player, and SD card slot comes in. The picture on the screen is bright, crisp and accurate, thanks to the 1440x234 resolution, 300:1 contrast ratio, 25ms response time, and 16:9 display ratio. A full function remote control provides complete wireless access to your monitor\'s settings. The kids will enjoy themselves in the backseat and you\'ll be comfortable and safe in the front knowing a headrest will protect you. This model also includes a zip-up cover for the screen to prevent sun damage and to keep your car safe when you\'re not around. It\'s also compatible with IR wireless headphones, so you can enjoy peace of quiet while the backseat has a blast – or use the built in FM transmitter to enjoy the sound throughout your vehicle. Best of all, these headrests are easy to install, and fit in many car and SUV models.

Pyle PHPW2 Hi-Fi Wireless FM Headphones (Super Bass, Black) Review

Pyle PHPW2 Hi-Fi Wireless FM Headphones (Super Bass, Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These wireless headsets from Pyle are mainly used in our home for watching and hearing sound from movies. These are not the best in sound quality but fairly priced. Other features with these headsets like listening to the FM radio isn't as convenient since there's no way to see the station that's tuned in, or a quick way to tune to a favorite station. Instead, I manually push the scan button until the right station I want is being received. When the headset is turned off, then turned back on, the headset forgets the presets so I would need to do it again. So, I don't use it to listen to FM; it's only for emergencies.
Newer wireless FM transmitting base stations and FM receiving headsets have more standard features like built in microphone and ability to use DC power instead of AAA batteries. In my opinion, the built in microphone is a nice to have but it probably isn't a reliable way to monitor for baby cries or for the elderly. The FM transmitting tower is weak, unable to go through walls reliably (900 MHz or higher like the frequencies wireless phones use would penetrate walls reliably). Also, the transmitting stations do not encrypt the wireless FM output signals so the entire neighborhood or the apartment complex could hear your conversations if you left the device on by accident. I prefer to leave this feature/option out of my transmitting station.
If you must have a wireless microphone (to transmit speech via wireless FM frequency), then buy a quality microphone separately (small microphones for computers would work). You could connect the microphone to the Audio Input in the back of the transmitting tower to broadcast the speech/sound.
The DC adapter/capability feature for the newer models are a good feature to have to avoid consuming batteries, but audio quality is poor due to the DC signal noise (occasional crackle sounds and pops will be transmitted from the transmitter to the headsets when a large appliance in the house comes on to draw power). Personally, a battery powered transmitting station is the optimal method and results in higher quality/cleaner signals (the only power source for this Pyle model is two AAA batteries). Transmitting station and signal reception for the wireless headsets are reliable when there's no physical obstructions or barriers.
Power consumption is minimal, but I must remind myself to turn off both the transmitting station and headsets when not in use. I use rechargeable batteries and I never worry about running out of batteries or power for the transmitting station.
These are mono headsets when they operate in wireless FM frequency mode, but if plugged directly into the source with an adapter (purchase separately), they become stereo headsets. If you're looking for higher quality wireless headsets, you may want to get binaural wireless headsets which provide sound that's better than surround sound stereo, but could cost significantly more due to the newer technology behind it.
